The Pahang Peatland Restoration Project (PPRP) is operated by Enggang Pekan Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Enggang Group . The project conserves and restores 96,569 hectares of peatland and alluvial marshland in Pahang—an irreplaceable ecosystem of global ecological significance.
The project delivers measurable outcomes across three dimensions: climate, community and biodiversity.
Over the project commitment of ~60 years, PPRP is projected to prevent 174 million tonnes of CO₂e emissions, while removing an additional 11.8 million tonnes through forest restoration and peatland rewetting—equivalent to a conservatively estimated 3.1 million tonnes of avoided emissions annually.
Rewetting degraded peatlands and restoring forest cover significantly reduces carbon emissions while enabling long-term carbon sequestration. Project monitoring tracks water levels, biomass accumulation, and emissions through ground surveys, drones, and satellite imagery.
PPRP is built on robust FPIC and active participation of local Orang Asli Jakun communities. Through co-designed benefit-sharing, capacity-building programmes, and sustainable livelihood initiatives, the project ensures that conservation delivers tangible benefits for local communities.
The project protects habitats for rare and endangered wildlife, including the Raffles’ Banded Langur, Wrinkled Hornbill, and Hairy-nosed Otter. Restoration activities reconnect fragmented landscapes, while biodiversity monitoring programmes advance scientific knowledge and track ecosystem recovery.
